Bill J. Caldwell, 73, Onawa, Iowa died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at a Sioux City hospital.

Bill was born February 2, 1933 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Jesse and Ruby (Turner) Caldwell. He was raised in Onawa, Iowa where he graduated from Onawa High School. He attended the University of Nebraska where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a licensed Professional Engineer. He joined the United States Army March 16, 1954 and served in China during the Korean War until his discharge February 11,1957.

He married Eunice Snyder August 23,1958 in Omaha, NE. Bill was an electrical engineer with Nebraska Public Power District and was assigned to several areas before the couple moved to Muscatine, Iowa where he was employed with Stanley Consultants. The couple moved to Onawa in 1982 where Bill owned and operated Caldwell Engineering until his retirement.

Bill was a member of First Christian Church. He loved being with his family and always enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, camping, gardening, woodworking, carpentry, chess and a good game of Bridge or Pinnacle. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice of Onawa; his children and their spouses, Kirk Caldwell of Tehachapi, CA, Sue (Bryan) Harvey of Florence SC, Dori (Bryan) Hecht of Plainfield, IN, Steve Caldwell of Spirit Lake, IA, Linette (Jamie) Staley of Camby, IN, Matt Caldwell of Burnsville, MN, Bart (Mona Lisa) Caldwell of Ankeny, IA, Teresa (Brian) Jones of Apex, NC, Jenny (Adam) Ross of Charlotte, NC, Lisa (Tim) Becker of Glen Allen, VA and Julie Caldwell of Durham, NC; fifteen grandchildren; a great granddaughter and a brother, Gary Caldwell of Omaha, NE.

He was, preceded in death by his parents and a son, David.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at First Christian Church in Onawa with Pastor Don Collison officiating. Music selections were "Angels Among Us" and a solo, "Wind Beneath My Wings" provided by Patti Gibson, Ann Phillips was organist. Burial was at Onawa Cemetery with a flag presentation by the United States Army. Visitation was from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with the family present 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Casket bearers were Kirk, Steve, Matt and Bart Caldwell and Tyler and Tanner Hecht.
