Many thanks to fellow Find A Grave contributor Chris Buzzard for noting that Lucinda had a second marriage:

John Kerns married Lucinda Buzzard 16 Aug 1863 in Highland Co, OH [McBrides' marriage records, p. 132], but the name Kerns apparently doesn't appear on her tombstone, or it would have been read as that by the McBrides. Did the Kerns-Buzzard marriage not last? Can anyone clarify?

==========

Re the John Kerns who was Lucinda Smoot Buzzard's second husband:

There was a John Kerns age 50 in the 1860 census (thus born abt 1810, a year before Lucinda) living in Liberty Twp, Highland Co, OH; he would seem to be the likely second husband of Lucinda were it not for the fact that he was married to Nancy in 1860 and still married to Nancy in 1870, so he cannot be the one who married Lucinda in 1863.

In the 1850 Census in Paint Twp, Highland Co, OH, there were two men named John Kerns close in age. One was born abt 1811 and was married to Nancy; the other was born abt 1812 and was married to Eliza. We know (see paragraph above re 1860 and 1870 censuses) that the one married to Nancy is not the one who married Lucinda. That leaves the one born abt 1812 and married to Eliza as the most likely candidate to be the second husband of Lucinda.

Died at age 55 yrs.
