Ryan McNeil "Mac" Martin, 39, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in a fall.
Mac was born on March 14, 1975 in Blackfoot to Larry Dale and Julie Ann Williams Martin. He was the 2nd youngest child and youngest son in the family and as such, Mac's younger years were filled with joyful experiences of cheering on his older siblings in their various activities or working with them on the family farm. Mac was a very gifted athlete and a stand-out on every team. In high school he excelled in football and wrestling, placing 3rd in state wrestling his sophomore year and being named to the All-State football team as a junior. As a senior running back he was the state's leading rusher when he suffered a season ending injury and was forced to sit out the rest of the season. Mac was a very charismatic person who made friends easily. Although the travels of life placed distance between them, Mac was blessed by the genuine love and concern of countless friends who never missed a chance to inquire about his well being when visiting with his family.
Mac married Shelby Roberts in 1994. They were divorced in 1999 at which time Mac moved to the Seattle area. While in Seattle, Mac found work on a deep sea fishing boat, The Pavlof, and opened a new, exciting chapter in his life. He worked on various boats but he especially enjoyed the thrill and challenge of working on crab fishing boats in the isolated seas of the Bearing Strait. Mac suffered an accident on a fishing boat in which he lost his left eye and left him unable to continue working in the industry. Mac met Kara McNeil who also worked in the fishing industry and they were married in 2006 in Las Vegas. They lived in Seattle and enjoyed the life style found in a large city. During that time Mac became a devout Seattle Seahawks fan and was proud to be a season ticket holder. Mac and Kara relocated to Oklahoma City in 2010. They separated in 2013 at which time Mac returned to Idaho.
Mac enjoyed watching all types of sports and had a vast knowledge of sports facts, figures and trivia. He enjoyed spending time with his mother playing cards, watching tv, and attending his nieces and nephews activities. He was a kind hearted person who cared for others and lamented the sorrow caused by his life's challenges.
Mac is survived by his mother, Julie Martin of Moreland; three brothers, Bill (Kimra), Travis, and Zay (Lisa) all of Moreland; two sisters, Leslie (Jim) Andrus of Highland, Utah and No'el (Ryan) Tew of Moreland; 11 nephews, nine nieces, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry; his paternal grandparents, Dale and Eilene Martin; maternal grandparents, Ferris and Zelda Williams; and a nephew, Easton Andrus.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Moreland LDS church. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot, and from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Moreland Cemetery.
