Francis Edgar Myers, 90, of Lily Lake died Monday, July 14, 2014, at his home.
Born June 20, 1924, in Warrior Run, he was the son of the late Edgar and Kathleen (McHale) Myers.
A graduate of Newport Township High School, he went on to attend Ithaca College where he received his Bachelor's of Fine Arts and Master's in Music Education. He proudly served with the U.S. Army 42nd Rainbow Infantry Division in World War II where he fought and was captured in the Battle of the Belgium Bulge in January 1945, and subsequently freed from captivity in April 1945 by Allied forces. He earned two Bronze Stars for personal valor in leading his platoon in combat, the Combat Infantry Badge and numerous unit awards for his wartime service to his country.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 58 years, the former Y. Maria Palumbo, who died in 2004.
Surviving are his one daughter with whom he lived, Kathleen Myers; two sons: Eric Myers of Arlington, Va.; Mark Myers of Scranton; four grandchildren: Kate, Rob, Olivia, and Joseph; and two great-grandchildren: Julia and Scarlett.
Funeral services and internment will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Mount Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery, Wapwallopen, PA 18660. The Rev. Mike Delp will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., Shickshinny.
