Richard Franklin (Rick) Helton, 67, of Roanoke, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 22, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Betty Helton. A graduate of William Fleming High School, he received his degree in business from Radford University. During the Viet Nam Era, he served in the United States Navy. Mr. Helton was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and in the choir. Rick worked for Blue Cross, Wen-Don Chemical Co. and Roanoke Stamp and Seal.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Carolyn Guthrie Helton; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jamie Hurt; son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Stephanie Helton; two granddaughters, Brianna and Madeline Hurt; brother, Dr. Timothy D. Helton and wife, Amy; sister, Gigi (Valerie) Helms and husband, Steve; niece, Jordan Helton; and nephew, Colby Helms.

Memorials may be made to Shenandoah Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 25, 2014, at Shenandoah Baptist Church. Dr. Robert Alderman and the Rev. Tommy Hurt Jr. will officiate. Interment with military honors by the United States Navy will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friend from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Oakey's North Chapel.
