William Lynell Sumner, 70, son of the late Jefferson Lynell Sumner and Virginia Sumner Darling, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013 after a long battle with dementia.

Surviving are his soul mate of 51 years, Evelyn Massey Sumner; his son, Jeffrey Lynell Sumner (Kim); his daughter, Traci Sumner Jordan (Stewart); four grandchildren, WO1 Jeffrey Sumner II, US Army (Vanessa), Stewart Jordan, Jr., Caroline Sumner, and Jon Jordan; his brothers, Steve Sumner (Beth), Barry Sumner; his in-laws, Gertrude Brown (Bob); Tommy Massey (Joy); Etrulia Hooper (Joe), and Loretta Cox.

Lynell greatly enjoyed traveling, golf, cruises and loved riding in the mountains especially in his latter days. He took special pride and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Lynell was a member of Daybreak Community Church where he loved singing in the choir.

As a young man Lynell was a Boy Scout, achieving the honor of Eagle Scout. He was a 1960 graduate of Parker High School. Early in his career, he graduated from Greenville Technical College with a degree in Textile Management followed by a long and successful career in the textile industry. He was employed at Dan River (Woodside Mill) and Greenwood Mills where he was in management. He retired in 2004 after 15 years with Hoechst Celanese Fibers as a technical sales representative.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Daybreak Community Church and all friends for the support and prayers through Lynell's extended illness and a very special thanks to Loretta Cox, Joe and Etrulia Hooper for their dedication and undying love.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 11, 2013 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. at Daybreak Community Church with a celebration of Lynell's life following at 2:30 p.m. The Reverend Jeff Brown and The Reverend Floyd Parker will officiate. Burial will be in Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley.
