Robert Lane Bowker was born January 2, 1963, in Redwood City, California to Kenneth Sr. and Nadine L. Different Horse Bowker. As Kenneth worked for Indian Health Services, the family moved frequently. Robert attended schools in Tuba City, AZ, Dallas, TX, and Rapid City before moving to Eagle Butte. While in school, Robert was a boxer, and participated in the Golden Gloves Boxing Assn.

Robert entered the military, serving for several years in the medical field whill in the U.S. Army. He was discharged in August of 1981. After his discharge, Robert married Dawn Baker, and to this union three children were born, Ryan, Bobbi and Dyanna. Robert worked on and off in the construction industry, but had a goal to become a nurse, a goal that was unfortunately unmet at the time of his death.

Robert was a loving and caring father, grandfather and friend. He was also an amazing and skilled artist, an avid beader and a believer in the Lakota traditional ways. He also was very concerned for his friends and was always willing to help those in need. He will be deeply missed to all who knew and loved him.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Ryan of Sioux Falls, SD, Bobbi of Minneapolis, MN, and Dyanna of Rapid City, SD; grandchildren, Daniel, Darrian and Davion and his siblings, Kenneth Jr., Rapid City, SD, Carlyle, Minneapolis, MN, Rocky, Renae and Holly, Eagle Butte, SD, and Lawrence "Larry", Swiftbird, SD, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins too numerous to list.
