Lawrence "Larry" Howard Beck (79) was peacefully taken to heaven by Jesus and an Angel on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. He was under the care of his loving daughters, Encompass Hospice, and Quail Ridge Assisted Living Home.
Larry was the second of 5 children born to James Howard and Opal Beck. He was born on July 12, 1935 in Pocatello, Idaho where he lived most of his life. As a teenager, he loved to hunt and fish with his family. In the mid 1950's, Larry served in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist's Mate. While in the Navy he served aboard auxiliary ships and on the Pacific island of Guam. During this time period he married Doris Esterbrook. Together they had 3 wonderful daughters, Laurie Schorsch, Melanie (John) Myers (Jacksonville,FL), and Coreen Rene-Garcia. His daughters then gave him 4 grandchildren Derek Hartman, Jason Hartman, Jarod Paul Myers, and Grace Myers. Larry worked in the gas fields of Wyoming, living in Big Piney and Kemmerer, Wyoming. Later, he moved with his family back to Pocatello where he worked for numerous machine shops, including Beck and Jensen Machine, Partner Steel, Simplots, the INEL, and FMC.
Doris passed away in 1986. Larry married Gerry Bennion and together, they managed a year-round campground/marina located on Clark Canyon Reservoir in Montana. They were later divorced. When spending winters in Quartzite, AZ. Larry enjoyed spending time as an RV Shuttle Driver transporting trucks, campers, motor homes and trailers around the U.S. for retired snowbirds. Larry lived for spending time with his family, camping at Island Park Reservoir, playing cards, cooking for his family, and teaching his daughters to fish. He also enjoyed gleaning potatoes from the Idaho potato fields for his family and friends which he joyfully delivered to them every fall. It was during this time that he suffered a massive stroke.
Larry moved to Quail Ridge in 2012 where he was visited often by this loving daughters, family, and friends. Larry was a fighter until the very end, wanting to spend every last moment he could with his beloved daughters.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 grandsons, Derek Hartman and Jarod Paul Myers. He is survived by 4 brothers and sisters Virginia Farmer (Twin Falls), Sharon Bell(Pocatello), Lois (Milo)Packer (Hagerman), James (Vickie) Beck (Blackfoot), and his 3 daughters whom he loved very much.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 pm in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Pocatello, with military graveside rites.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Encompass Hospice Employee benefit fund, 4425 Burley Dr, Pocatello, ID 83202.
