June 16, 2014 Joel Barnes, 76, passed away June 16, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Rayburn and Mavous DuBose Barnes, sister, LaVern Hyche, sisters-in-law, Alice Barnes and Betty Barnes, brother-in-law, Kelly Hyche, and grandson, Brandon Pope. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma, daughters, Kristi and Vicki, grandchildren, Jason, Jordan, Justin, and Jade, 3 great-grandchildren, brothers, James and his twin, Noel Barnes. Joel was born and raised in Fayette County, Alabama. He played basketball at Fayette County High School and was inducted into the Fayette County Sports Hall of Fame. He played basketball at Marion Military Institute where he was a Honorable Junior All American. He spent many years coaching and umpiring slow pitch softball, refereeing girls and boys HS basketball and was inducted into the Birmingham Sports Hall of Fame. He also had a love for golf. Joel was a wonderful Husband, Father and Friend to many. The family would like to Thank Comfort Care workers, Francis, Kerry, Virginia, and his sitters Lynette, Jimmy, Millie and many others. Service will be Thursday, June 19, 2014. Visitation from 10:00am to 11:00am with graveside services to follow at 11:00am at Jefferson Memorial, Trussville.
