He was born in Austin, the son of Francis and Sarah Marshall. A 1954 graduate of Austin High School, Sonny studied business at Penn State University. He worked in the Market Basket grocery store chain for more than 30 years and was a familiar face at several local stores, including Coudersport. He was active with the Duke Center United Methodist Church and in community affairs in the Otto/Duke Center area.
Among survivors are his wife of 29 years, the former Donna Bova; daughters Voni (Mrs. Bob) Walker and Jill (Mrs. Roger) Petersen, both of Wellsville, N.Y., Becky (Mrs. Dennis) Campbell of Bradford, and Jeannie (Mrs. Danny) Drummond of Duke Center; a son, Mick Marshall of Bradford; and a sister, Gloria "Tootsie" Stuckey.
A memorial gathering will be held from noon to 5 on Saturday, April 19, at the Otto Township Firehall. Memorials may be made to Bradford Hospital Foundation, American Cancer Society, or Duke Center United Methodist Church.
