Mr. James Curtis Reece, 81, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a very brief battle with cancer. Mr. Reece was born by the grace of God on August 7, 1932 in Yadkin County to Charlie and Toy Willard Reece. He served, first of all, his Lord, then the US Marine Corps. Mr. Reece married his childhood sweetheart, Virginia, on June 30, 1956. He retired from Salem Electric, where he was loved by many and was one of the kindest men they had known. Mr. Reece was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Reece was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Dale, Billy and Fred Reece. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Virginia Stewart Reece; two sons, Mitchell (Christine) Reece and J. Bart Reece who has done so much to help care for his dad; one precious grandson, Andrew Reece; one sister, Patsy Branch; two brothers, Donald (Kathy) Reece and David (Sherlie) Reece; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Reece and Carolyn Reece; one brother-in-law, Arthur (Toby) Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 12:00PM at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville with Phillip Willard (cousin) and Lawrence Warden officiating. Burial will follow at Shallowford Baptist Church cemetery, 2440 Beroth Rd Pfafftown, NC, with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
