Uriah was a Civil War soldier who lost his right thumb. Company F, 109th NY Infantry and Company 46th, 2nd Battalion Regiment RC.

OBITUARY: Uriah Short, a civil war veteran, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Theodore Beagell, in Binghamton on Monday, June 13, aged 90 years. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church in Apalachin, the Rev. George D. Beach officiating, and burial was in the Apalachin cemetery. He was born at Apalachin and was a son of Uriah Short. He had lived there all of his life, except the last few years he had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Beagell. He was a veteran of the civil war, having been a member of the 109th regimen, New York volunteers. Besides his daughter, Mrs. Beagell, he leaves one son, Wesley Short, of Endicott, 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
