"Caleb Nichols and his son, Simeon Nichols, both revolutionary soldiers, came from Rhode Island, in the latter part of the year 1791. The former died in 1804, and the latter May 16, 1856, aged ninety-three years." [Source: Historical gazetteer of Tioga County, New York, 1785-1888. Gay, W. B.. Syracuse, N.Y.. W.B. Gay. 1986; Part I, page 399]

The Tioga County Shorts and Nicholses have the possibility of Mayflower ancestry. It is a fact that there were several Caleb Nicholses in various records in the 1700s and one of them married a Mayflower descendant. However, I've found only one secondary source which states it "may be" this Caleb Nichols. The book is Mayflower Families Through Five Generations, Volume 23, Part 2, pg. 232-3. It states:

"EXPERIENCE BOSWORTH...married at Rehoboth [Massachusetts], 8 September 1760...CALEB NICHOLS probably born at Rehoboth 14 March 1737/8...He may be the Caleb Nichols "from Rhode Island" who died after 8 February 1791, probably in 1804 at Apalachin, N.Y. ..."

The Historical Gazetteer of Tioga County, New York is cited at the end of Experience's section, and is the source for the 'from Rhode Island' internal quote in preceding paragraph, as well as the first paragraph in this section.

Experience's lineage has been established. She is the:
- Daughter of John Bosworth and Elizabeth Wheaton.
- Granddaughter of John Bosworth and Elizabeth Toogood.
- Great-granddaughter of Hannah Howland and Jonathan Bosworth.
- Great-great granddaughter of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley (both Mayflower passengers in 1620).
- Great-great-great granddaughter of John Tilley and Joan Hurst (both Mayflower passengers in 1620 who died the first year in America).
