US Congressman. An 1819 graduate of Bowdoin College, in Brunswick, Maine, he was admitted to the Maine State Bar Association in 1823, and practiced law first in Damariscotta, Maine from 1823 to 1835, then in Wiscasset, Maine from 1835 to 1850. He served four years in the Maine State Legislature (1831 to 1835), then was elected in 1844 as a Democrat to represent Maine’s 4th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. He served a single term from 1845 to 1847, then returned to his law practice. He passed away in Sutton, Massachusetts, where he moved to in 1852.
