Norma Helen Brown passed away July 20, 2014. She was born February 4, 1929 to Lawrence and Rebecca Rush in Purcell, Oklahoma. Norma's family came to California when she was 6 years old and settled in Tulare. She lived in Tulare the rest of her life except for 2 years, which she lived in Santa Cruz.

She married Roy E. Brown in 1947 and they had 49 years together before he passed away. Norma earned her teaching credential while raising three boys. She began her teaching career at Sundale School and then worked for the Tulare City School District at Roosevelt School as a kindergarten teacher for 20 plus years. Norma had a great love for music and played in several bands. She also enjoyed doing crafts and meeting with her S.O.U.L. sisters. She loved reading to children at Grandma's House and volunteering at the Tulare Senior Center, where she especially liked helping with the Meals On Wheels Program.

Norma is survived by her three sons, Lance Brown in the Philippines, David "Bud" Brown (Gloria) in the Philippines and Paul Brown (Brenda) of Tulare; 9 grandchildren and 10-1/2 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband Roy, Norma was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Brown Searcy; grandson Lance "Buba" Brown and 9 siblings.

Visitation will be 12-8 pm, Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Monday, July 28, 2014, also at Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel with burial at Tulare District Cemetery. At Norma's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, C/O Tulare Senior Center, 201 North F Street, Tulare, CA 93274, (559)685-2330.
