Harry was born Aug. 27, 1914, to George and Florence Eden in a farm house near Alexandria, Neb. He and Edna Achtemeier were raised on adjoining farms and wed Dec. 4, 1935. In 1936, Edna and two friends packed up belongings in Harry's car to drive to his brother George's farm near Gooding, while Harry hitched a ride out on the immigrant train.
While living near Gooding they were blessed with a son and a daughter. In 1939 they moved to Fairbury, Neb., where Harry worked in a creamery until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He served as a radio operator in France and Germany and after the war he returned to the creamery in Fairbury.
In 1948 he traveled to Shoshone and took a job as a butcher at Mile's Cold Storage where he was employed for 37 years until his retirement in 1985 at the age of 70. Harry was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Edna; sisters, Hilda Gaston, Edith Knigge, Grace Ryska, Florence Berry and Ida Elam; brother, George Eden; granddaughter, Sheryl Davidson; grandson, Scott Eden; and great-grandson, Aaron Davidson Lowry.
Survivors include his son, Bill (Faith) Eden; daughter, Harriet (Vern) Davidson; grandsons, Dave Davidson, Ray and Doug Eden; granddaughters, Kathy Davidson Lowry, Rosalie Grant and Sherrie Anderson; nine great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service is pending and will be announced at a later date. Demaray Shoshone Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
