Our beloved uncle, Charles Alton Seagler passed from this life on Monday, July 21, 2014. He was born in Tennessee Colony, Texas on September 1, 1925 to Lennie Jane Vance Seagler and Claude William Seagler. His family was among the original settlers of the Colony that made their way by covered wagon by way of Tennessee hence the name. Grandpa Seagler purchased some land nearby and built a home and they farmed and grew their own crops to sustain the family that consisted of four girls, Edith, Emma Bell, Wilma, and Ann, and four boys, Bernard, Austin, Claude L. and Charles. February 15, 1944 he joined the army where he began medical basic training and became a medical aidman. He also transported personnel and equipment serving in the Rhineland of Central Europe during the war. He earned the EAME campaign ribbon with 2 bronze stars, meritorious unit award, army occupation ribbon-Germany, victory ribbon, 3 overseas service bars. He was captured by German Forces at the Rhine river , and held prisoner for 48 hours March 26, 1945 and liberated by American forces March 28, 1945. Honorably discharged August 7, 1946 from the military service having served in honest and faithful service to his country. On February 3, 1960 he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Irene Partridge Campbell who was originally from Horwich, England. She passed away January 17, 2009. Uncle Chuck is survived by one brother, Claude L. Seagler and other nephews and nieces including Dwain and Sandra Seagler from Houston, Texas, Joy Pyle from Corsicana, and Larry Seagler form Palestine. He and his wife traveled with his job doing seismography for an oil company to many countries including, Australia and Europe. After retiring and moving back to Tennessee Colony they bought some land not far from his original home place where he grew up and they built a home where he raised cattle and hay. He worked for years after that as a forest ranger for Texas A&M. Later they moved to town giving up the farm life where he tended to his yard and Betty was a member of the garden club and her many church functions. Our Uncle Chuck was a quiet and thoughtful man who we loved and will greatly miss. Our lives will not be the same without him. We will miss his reminiscing about growing up on the farm and travels. We want to especially thank his caretaker Cecil Harlow who without him he could not have enjoyed residing at his home the last five years. He thought the world of him and he lifted his spirits after the loss of his beloved wife and gave his life meaning again. There came a time when he questioned eternity and his caretaker led him in prayer to a saving knowledge of Christ. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Tennessee Colony Cemetery with Rev. Bill Arden officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
