Laurie Scott Swain, age 85, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Yancey House. A native of Yancey County, she was one of 13 children to the late Morrison and Emma Allen Snelson and the wife of George G. Scott, who passed away in 1997. Laurie was also preceded in death by two children: Pauline Norton and Frank Cecil Scott and 10 of her brothers and sisters. She was a member of Banks Creek Union Church, worked at Mohasco Carpet Mfg for 16 years, and loved to embroider, quilt and cook.
Surviving is two daughters: Shirley Ledford and husband, Sam, of Burnsville and Jane Burleson of Nebo; two sons: Jim Scott of Burnsville and Frank Scott and wife, Maxine, also of Burnsville; two sisters: Genevieve McMahan of Weaverville and Kathleen Edwards of Mars Hill; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 4 great, great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced.
