THOMPSON, MELANIE, of Pensacola Beach, died suddenly Thursday night at Gulf Breeze Hospital. Melanie and her loving husband, Charlie moved to the beach in 1992 from Dallas, Texas. Melanie never met a stranger and was a true and loving person. All of her many friends will miss her dearly. She and Charlie were married for over twenty years. Melanie was Charlie's soul mate and his entire life revolved around her. Melanie was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She then moved to Orlando, Florida at an early age. She graduated from Boone High School and then Mercer University. At Mercer University she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and served a term as President. After her college graduation, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and worked for C&S Bank until joining Delta Airlines. She later transferred to Dallas, Texas as a Marketing Representative with Delta Airlines where she met her husband, Charlie. Melanie was an avid tennis player and played at ALTA in Atlanta where her mixed doubles partners included Lewis Grizzard and Billie Jean King's husband. After moving to the beach, she continued her tennis playing for the Gulf Breeze team based at Shoreline Recreational Center. Melanie is preceded in death by her grandmother Betty Makela of Mt. Dora Florida and her father Allan C. Jones, Jr. also of Mt. Dora, Florida. She is survived by her loving husband, Charlie Thompson of Pensacola Beach, Florida, her mother Marilyn Jones Haass of Mt. Dora, Florida and two sisters, Debbi Jones Albers of Orlando, Florida and Carol Jones Hood of Mt. Dora, Florida and two stepchildren by marriage. They are Charles David Thompson Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia and Dr. Lisa Paige Thompson of Ocala, Florida. Rose Lawn Funeral Home, Gulf Breeze, Florida.
