Paul Mager, 87, of Connoquenessing passed away Tuesday at his home.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1926, in Lyndora to the late Sidor Mager and Anna Mager.
Mr. Mager was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS LST 682 during the Normandy Beach landings.
He worked as a baker at the Lyndora National Baking Co. and on iron ore boats on the Great Lakes. Mr. Mager retired as a crane operator at Armco with 38 years of service.
He was a member of the Connoquenessing United Methodist Church and the American Legion, Lyndora Post 778.
Mr. Mager enjoyed hunting, camping, watching baseball and hockey and helping raise and show AKC Samoyeds.
Mr. Mager is survived by his wife, Betty (Kidd) Mager, who he married on Sept. 15, 1952; his two sons, Daniel Mager and his wife, Cheryl, of Portersville and Ronald Mager and his wife, Rita, of Butler; his three daughters, Barbara Miller and her husband, William, of Lyndora, Donna Karch and her husband, Kenneth, of Renfrew and Bonnie Mager of Butler; his seven grandchildren, Stacy Yoho and her husband, Glenn, Heather Howard and her husband, Jason, Jason Dobson and his wife, Kim, Michael Altemus and his wife, Tricia, Stephen Mager, Chelsea Mager and Jamie Mager; his 16 great-grandchildren; his four nieces; and his three nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four sisters; his four brothers; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Mager- The friends of Paul Mager, who passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Pastor Kurt Knobel of Connoquenessing United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.
Officers and members of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
