Amy Ryuko Simpson, 84, of Las Vegas, passed away July 16, 2014. Amy was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Tokyo, Japan. After the war, she worked as a secretary on a military base. In early 1956, she met Peter Galloway, a nuclear engineer, working in Japan on contract. They were married February 1957. Pete was reassigned and they moved to Sacramento, Calif. February 1958. Her son, Ryk, was born March 1960. In February 1962, Amy became a naturalized citizen. In March 1962, they moved to Las Vegas, where Pete worked at the nuclear test site. Amy's husband, Pete, died January 1972. Amy worked for Caesars Palace until she married Mr. Simpson April 14, 1979. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Amy was an accomplished artist and was a founding member of the Clark County Artists Guild, Many of her paintings and other works may be found in many states, Japan, China, and Belgium. Amy was also proficient as a seamstress, worked as a secretary and was an excellent housekeeper. Amy was an outgoing person and had many local friends. In her younger days, there were many times that Amy suffered hardships. She was in Tokyo when it was bombed and she survived the fire-bombing near the end of World War II. She experienced the hardship and deprivation that Japan experienced for several years at the end of the war. But, Amy was a fighter and a survivor and came through it all. She set a goal to never be poor again and was very successful in business and investing. With her husband, they established Kashiya Rentals in Boulder City, and operated it until shortly after they retired. She was devoted to her son and was always concerned for his well-being. She provided him with a good education. He is a teacher in the Clark County School District. She was preceded in death by one brother; and one sister. Amy is survived by her husband, Burton J. Simpson, PE; and her only son, Ryk Galloway. She is also survived by five brothers; one sister; and many nephews and nieces, most of whom reside in Japan. Private services were previously held.
