James was the son of Henry and Eliza Berryman Jacobs. He married Sallie, the daughter of Martha Burnam, on March 3, 1887 in Clark County, Kentucky. The couple were the parents of George, Henry and Caldwell Edward Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs supported his family by working as a gardener. He passed away from the effects of chronic interstitial nephritis.
