MANCHAUG Austin L. "Jack" Carter, 84, of Main St., died Sun., March 18, 2007, in the Beaumont Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center, Northbridge. He was the husband of Jeanette C. (O'Brien) Carter.
Mr. Carter was employed at the former Whitin Machine Works for more than 40 years, before his retirement in 1984. Mr. Carter was born April 8, 1922 in Uxbridge, the son of the late Morton and Luella (Greene) Carter, Sr. and had been a resident of Manchaug most of this life. He attended Sutton schools.
Mr. Carter was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters.Mr. Carter was a long time member of the John Mateychuk American Legion Post #390 in Manchaug. He enjoyed auto racing all of his life and also enjoyed the outdoors, hiking with his dogs, cutting wood, gardening, spending vacations in Deer Isle, ME. and time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Austin L. "Sonny" and his wife Aileen "Pat" Carter, Jr. of Sutton; one daughter, Rosemary C. and her husband Michael Salem of Sutton; two brothers, Morton Carter of Sutton, Gordon Carter of Port Orange, FL.; two sisters, Norma Decoteau and Nancy Dawicki, both of Manchaug; 3 grandchildren, Tim, Mike and Matt and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Leonard Carter and one sister, Doris Pamula.
Funeral services will be held Wed., March 21, 2007 at 10:30 AM in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 North Main (Rt. 122), Uxbridge, MA 01569.
Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Mendon St., Uxbridge.
Visiting hours will be Tues., March 20, 2007 from 4-8 PM in the Buma Funeral Home, 101 North Main St. (Rt. 122), Uxbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
