Darrell Wayne Walker I, 49, of Waco, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Pleasant Olive Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Edward Ross officiating. A Wake will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2014, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Darrell Wayne, affectionately known as "Big Darrell," was born in McLennan County, Texas, to the late James Terry and LuVella London Walker. Being the "baby" of six, he was truly spoiled, but in spite of that he was full of "mother's wit and wisdom" for his age. Darrell graduated from Jefferson Moore High School in 1983 and was very active in athletics. His favorite sport was football and he excelled as a linebacker. He was loved and admired by his classmates, faculty and peers.

After graduating from high school, he attended McLennan Community College. During his studies, he found the time to marry his high school sweetheart, Sevela Michelle, on November 2, 1984. They shared a story book romance that lasted over 32 years. During this union the Lord blessed them with four beautiful children: Darrell Wayne I, Tiffany Monique, Bianca A'Jahn, and Hailee Noel.

Darrell began his working career as the Night Manager at Taco Torch during high school. After graduating from high school, he began a career at Coca-Cola where he was employed as a Vending Mechanical Engineer for 17 years. While working at Coca-Cola, he continued his education at MCC studying to be a Radiologist. While studying and working, he was offered a job with the United States Postal Service. He worked there from 2000 until his demise, despite his medical condition.

Darrell never met a stranger and was loved by everyone that he came in contact with. His smile could light up a room! He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and nephew. To know Darrell was to love him!

Darrell will truly be missed because he was a gentle, giant of a man that was known as an encourager, counselor and God-fearing man. Even though his body grew weak and weary, he never complained. He exemplified extraordinary strength and faith. "His charming ways and smiling face are a pleasure to recall. He had a kindly word for each and died beloved to all."

Darrell was preceded in death by brothers: Ronnie Mosley Sr. and Michael Walker.

Survivors include a loving and devoted wife, Sevela Michelle; son: Darrell II "Lil' D", of Houston; daughters: Tiffany "Tiffy Mojo", Bianca "Tainta", and Hailee "Shushe", all of Waco; god-son, Elijah Boarman; father-in-law, Rev. Melvin Dowdy (Raynell), of Houston; brothers, James Terry Walker II and wife, Judy, and Jesse Walker I, of Waco; sisters, Valla Walker Ware, of Arlington, Texas, and Sheila Walker, of Waco; great aunt, Victoria Webster; great uncle, Lonnie Graves; brother-in-law, Peter Dowdy; sister-in-law, Kristen Dowdy, both of Houston; numerous aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
