Glen E. Rice, age 90, formerly of Le Roy died Thursday July 17, 2014 at the Ostrander Care and Rehab where he had resided for about 3 years.
Glen Eli Rice was born September 11, 1923 in Storm Lake, IA to Raymond and Vida (Thompson) Rice. He was united in marriage to Ellen June Konrahdi on March 6, 1943 in Dakota City, NE and entered military service on March 11, 1943. Glen served in the United States Army during WW II; he was a Private First Class serving in the 114th Engineer Combat Battalion. He received a Good Conduct Medal and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 star, he was discharged on December 12, 1945. Glen was a farmer and also worked for ABS (American Breeding Service) for 15 years. He also worked as a Milk Hauler and had many other jobs. He loved playing marbles with anyone and enjoyed telling about his time in the service. He was a lifetime member of the Adams American Legion.
He is survived by his sons; Steve (Cindy) Rice of Souix Rapids, IA, Dennis (Deborah) Rice of Leroy, MN, Kenneth (Wendy) Rice of Taopi, MN, Jason (Elizabeth) Rice of Ostrander, MN; also by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; his siblings, Virgil (Betty) Rice of Souix City, IA, Ellen Henderson of Cherokee, IA, and Veda Santos of Fairfield, CA.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents; Raymond & Vida (Thompson) Rice; his children,Glen "Sonny" Jr., Jimmy, and Timmy Rice; his siblings, Evron, Doris (Rice) Campbell, Loreen (Rice) Carpenter.
