"POLAND – Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Episcopal Church, Boardman, for Christina R. Beard, 94, formerly of Parkland Ave. and Sharrott Road, who died Friday morning at Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland. Mrs. Beard was born Dec. 13, 1913 in Cleveland, a daughter of Edward E. and Anna Wright Shorten. She was a graduate of South High School and a member of the church, the Boardman Historical Society, the New Middletown Garden Club and several bridge and dance clubs. Mrs. Beard also volunteered with Hospice and Meals on Wheels. A homemaker, Christina was an excellent cook and seamstress. She valued her lifelong friends and family and had traveled extensively around the world with her husband, Elton, who passed away Oct. 12, 1995. Surviving Mrs. Beard are her daughter, Joan Beard of Morgantown, W.Va., a son, Ronald (Judith) Beard of Sparta, N.J., and a brother Dr. E.A. Shorten of Canfield. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Paula Beard of Denver, N.C., and Sheryl Ostrye of Annapolis, Md.; and two great-granddaughters, Leah and Kaylee. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jessie Shorten, in 2001. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Southern Care Hospice, 5401 Ashley Circle, Suite E., Youngstown, OH 44515 or St. James Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, OH 44512."
