Twin to Ralph Dodson
Ray Dodson, 85, of South Candler St., Villa Rica, died October 23, 2007, in Tanner Medical Center-Villa Rica.
Mr. Dodson was born in Villa Rica on June 11, 1922, the son of the late John Henry Dodson and the late Lula Veitch Dodson.
He lived his entire lifetime in Carroll County and served in the United States Army during World War II. He owned Villa Rica Cabinet Company for many years and was a very well-known cabinet builder and designer. He also owned and operated Ray's Tackle Shop for a number of years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica and the Berean Sunday School class and was very active in the church as long as his health permitted.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Forsyth Dodson, on March 14, 2003; two brothers, Buford Dodson and his twin brother, Ralph Dodson, and a sister, Doris Dodson Morris.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jimmy Brock and Susan and Ricky Lewis, all of Carrollton; his grandchildren, Brian Tolbert and Brad Tolbert, both of Villa Rica, Amy and Tony Shumake, of Bremen and Andy Cutts and Erica Baldwin, both of Villa Rica; his great-grandchildren, Ansley Shumake, Aubry Shumake, Gracie Shumake and Avery Tolbert; his "very special friends," Gary and Lisa Seals, of Powder Springs; his "caregivers" Ann Harris and Ashley Davis; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Friday morning, October 26, 2007, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Hazel and the Rev. Brian Alexander officiating. Music will be provided by Rob Alford and Verrill Ray.
The family will receive friends at Mr. Dodson's residence at 317 South Candler St., Villa Rica, on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the funeral home Friday morning from 9 a.m. until the service hour.
In accordance with his wishes, the body was cremated.
