Son of the late Kelly Alton and Hopsa Basnight Ainsley, he was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of Cabin Swamp Church of Christ where his funeral was held on January 12, 2012, with Thomas Biggs, David Brothers and Ray Luyk officiating. He was survived by his wife, Rosa Lee Barnes Ainsley; three sons; three daughters, 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Cora A. Gallop (Pernell); and an extended family of relatives and friends. He was a farmer.
