Betty Ann (Leonard) Liggett was born January 11, 1927, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Charles and Elizabeth (Vest) Leonard. She was schooled in Davenport and lived there until she was married. The couple moved to Moline, Illinois until 1984 when Betty moved to Algona. She lived with her sister Pauline until her death then became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society ~ Algona in October, 2004 and died there on Thursday morning, July 17, 2014 at the age of 87.

Through the years, Betty enjoyed taking care of people much like a Nurses' Aid would today. She also enjoyed doing handiwork such as sewing, embroidery, crocheting, and working with plastic canvas. She found great pleasure in sharing her crafts with other people as gifts. Betty was an 'encourager', helping new residents of Good Samaritan adjust to their new home. Betty was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona.

Survivors include many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters.
