Born and raised in West Virginia. After graduation from high school he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Canberra. He also worked at the National Security Agency 31 years. He was a graduate of the CY100 Class and earned Associate Degree in Computer Science. He was a member of Elks and Moose Lodges.
S/o the late Steve and Hallie Carpenter.
Survived by his wife Joan of 51 years; sons: Brian, Melbourne, Australia; Gary (Erika), Cockeysville, MD; brothers: Bill (Yvette), Beckley, WV; James (Ginger), Pisgah Forest, NC; Kermit (Rhonda), Grandy, NC.
Services at Glenns Bay Baptist Church, Surfside Beach, SC Saturday, July 19, 2014 and burial at Hillcrest Cemetery.
