David Carl Waymire, of Spring, Texas, loving husband, father and grandfather passed in peace Monday July 7, 2014. He was born January 27, 1936, in Pleasant Lake, IN, raised on the family farm and graduated from Pleasant Lake High School as president of his class of 18. He attended Ball State University where he met and married his lifelong love Carol Brickler. After graduation they moved to Houston in 1959, where he started his career in sales, eventually owning his own company, Northwest Office Interiors, selling office furniture. As a natural and accomplished salesman, he later joined Carol in a second business, The Waymire Group, selling educational materials. Dave and Carol both retired in 2005.
He was a man of strong faith and a founding member of Cypress Creek Christian Church where he served in several lay positions and enjoyed the weekly worship of the contemporary service. Born a Hoosier with basketball in his blood he was a huge Rockets fan and supported all Houston sports teams during their good and bad seasons.
But Dave's true passion was raising and spending time with his wife, their three children and six grandchildren. He was a gentle man with a huge heart and a deep and unwavering love for his family and friends. He leaves behind warm and loving memories of his kind spirit, patience and wonderful sense of humor. Some of his favorite activities included cooking for his family, trips to the family beach house, fishing on Waymire lake and spending time with friends eating his homemade ice cream around the pool. His legacy of unconditional love will forever enrich the lives of his family, friends and all who knew him.
Dave was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2003 and later thyroid cancer in 2012. He handled both with grace, a determined spirit and was not slowed down, taking daily walks and swimming in his beloved backyard pool.
He is preceded in death by his father Carl Waymire, his foster daughter Joan Dettling, and his grandson Simon David Reistroffer. Dave is survived by his Mother, Bertha Waymire of Pleasant Lake, IN. His brothers Don Waymire and wife Sharon and Richard Waymire and wife Gail. His adoring wife of 57 years, Carol Waymire, his daughter Lisa Hinds and husband Bill and their children, Hannah, Grace and Sam. His daughter Marci Reistroffer and husband Willie and their children Jake and Ava. His Son, John Waymire and his partner Roy Ramirez. And special family member Tony Dettling. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank our many friends and family that provided love and support during Dad's illness including Gelesa Castle.
A private family graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday July 19, 3:00 at Cypress Creek Christian Church, 6823 Cypresswood Dr. In lieu of customary remembrances the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in his name be directed to Cypress Creek Christian Church, attn: Contemporary Worship Service, or Houston Area Parkinson's Society. The family would appreciate you sharing fond memories of Dave by visiting chron.comobits and signing his guestbook.
