She attended the Denver schools, graduating from South High School. She attended Denver Women's College as a music major until her marriage to Nicholas Golovanoff, a WWII returning GI.
They lived for a time in Globeville near her mother and father-in-law, Mary and Ignati Golovanoff (from Russia).
Nick and Mary Alice moved to South Denver, near her mother. They had three children; Sandra (Mrs. Tom Selders), Gregory and Jenny. They moved for a time to Thornton and later back to South Denver where Greg and Sandi attended school.
Mary Alice went to work as a book keeper and worked most of her adult life. She loved crafts and reading. Mary Alice was a gourmet cook and loved to collect recipes and cook books. Her dishes were especially appreciated community meals. In her later years, she became involved in the social events where she appeared in a melodrama in their retirement town of Pitkin. CO.
She and Nick were involved in the Order of Eastern Star. Mary Alice served as Worthy Matron of Charity Chapter #152, as Grand Chaplain, and as Grand Representative of the State of Colorado to Scotland.
After failing health forced them to move down from the mountains of Pitkin, she and Nick lived for a time in Gunnison, in Boise ID with their son and in Greeley near their daughter.
Nick died in 2010 and Mary Alice moved to Blue Grouse (Rehab and Nursing Center of the Rockies) in Fort Collins where she was near her grand daughter, Elizabeth.
Mary Alice attended one of her grand-daughter's graduation from Pharmacy School and celebrated her grandsons' graduation from high school in May. She saw another grand daughter entering special training in the US Coast Guard. She was also anticipating the birth of her newest great grand children and enjoyed the family gathering to celebrate.
Mary Alice lived a full life with lots of family descending from the marriage of two "only" children. She will be remembered with love.
Mary Alice slipped from this world to join her beloved Nick on July 16 2014 at the Hospice Unit of Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado.
