Bio from book: History Of Texas World War Heroes. Page 395.
William Carroll Porter was inducted into service in June 1918, and trained at No. 8, Veterinary Hospital, 3rd Bn., stationed at Camp Lee, Va. Went over in July, same year, and was stationed at Souilly, France until his death, which occurred Sept. 22nd from pneumonia. Pvt. Porter selected his branch of service, because he thought it most important in helping win the war, and that it would be helpful in his work when peace should be restored. Unfortunately he did not live to see that accomplished, but his services were valuable and the sacrifice of his life while in service entitles him to a place in history, on the roll of honor of the nation. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Porter, Snyder.
