Francis was born in England about 1595-99. He lived in Sudbury, Suffolk at some time, because his wife and children were said to be from Sudbury when the came to New England in 1635. His wife’s name was Alice, but her family name is not known. Francis probably came to New England before the rest of his family, because he was not listed as travelling with them on the ship in 1635. Francis Smith was made a freeman of Watertown in 1631. He was granted 8 lots. His homestall of 6 acres and adjoining 2 acres of marsh, were bounded south by the River; north by John Smith; east by Henry Cuttris; west by J. Norcross. After their arrival in Watertown, Francis and Alice moved to Reading, Massachusetts about 1642. Francis died in Reading on March 20, 1650.
