Arthur "Art" Barker, age 82, of Grahn, Ky., passed away Monday evening, July 14, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.

He was born July 23, 1931, in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late Leonard Thomas and Louella Blevins Barker.

Art proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a security guard. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch, visiting family and friends, and loafing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Ann Stevens Barker, and one sister and brother-in-law, Ardella and Dexter Lee Nolen.

Art is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Felice and Jeff Jarrell of Olive Hill, Ky., two grandchildren, Brandy (Rob) Post of Michigan and Jason Darga of Florida, two great-grandchildren, Dominique and Felicia, one brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Dorothy Barker of Olive Hill, Ky., two sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Glenn Wilburn of Grahn, Ky., and Amelia and Dwight Keaton of Olive Hill, Ky., his special friend and companion, Carolyn Duncan, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky., with his brother, Brother Tommy Barker and Brother Chris Glover officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Grahn, Kentucky, with full military rites conducted by the Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138.
