Peter J. Murray, 77, of Spring Lake and formerly of Ludington, died early Thursday, Aug. 2 at North Ottawa Community Hospital in Grand Haven. He was born July 26, 1930 in Detroit. He was married to Joyce Vickers and later to Donna Sauers who preceded him in death in 1999.
Peter served aboard the USS Coast Guard Cutter Woodbine in Grand Haven and the Grand Haven Coast Guard Lifeboat Station. He served on the USS Coast Guard Cutter Hedge during the Vietnam war. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1971 and lived in Ludington until 1999 when he moved to Spring Lake. He was a member of Harold Snyder Post 30 DAV.
He is survived by one daughter, Denise Murray of Spring Lake; one stepdaughter, Susan Hyde of Spring Lake; one sister, Maureen Otney of Fenton; one granddaughter, Jessica Artley of Jackson and one great-granddaughter, Kendra Kirsten of Jackson; nieces and nephews.
As per Peter's wishes there will be no services held. Cremation has taken place at Western Michigan Crematory in Muskegon. Final Interment will be in Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery in Southfield.
