Howard K. Wallace, Jr., age 63, of Gainesville, FL died Monday, October 4, 2010 after a brief illness. He was a native of Gainesville, son of the late Dr. H.K. Wallace and Helen Hobbs Wallace.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, an Eagle Scout, and graduate of GHS. He graduated from the University of Florida majoring in Physics.

Howard served in the USAF for 5 years as a C-141 Aircraft Commander with the rank of Captain.

He was a Building Contractor, Electrical Contractor and Class A HARV Contractor. He had been active in construction since 1976 and was primarily engaged in land development since the early eighties. He was recognized for his commitment to energy-efficient building by the National Association of Homebuilders Research Center. He was a leader in Energy Star construction and affordable housing in the State of Florida. He was a past member of the State of Florida Building Codes and Standards Board, GRU Energy Advisory Board, National Homebuilders Association Board, Alachua County Transportation Funding Advisory Board, Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Board, the Oak Hall School Board, and Gainesville Quarterback Club; past Chairman of the FL HBA Committee on Affordable Housing; past member and president of the Builders Association of North Central Florida and the Kiwanis Club of Gainesville; past District Chairman of the Alachua District of the N.FL Council of Boy Scouts: past graduate and sponsor of Leadership Gainesville 1993-1997 and currently a member of the Rotary Club of Gainesville.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anne Wallace, and his son, H.K. Wallace, III; by his sister, Nancy Bonner and her husband, John R. Bonner, of Alachua, FL and Highlands, NC.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 5:00pm Saturday, October 23, 2010 outdoors at Hatchet Creek, 11900 NE State Road 26, Gainesville, FL 32641. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Boy Scouts of America, 521 S. Edgewood Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32205 or Rotary Club of Gainesville Foundation, 9330 NW 13th Place, Gainesville, FL 32606.

While attending GHS, Howard distinguished himself as a member of the National Honor Society in his senior year. He was also active in the band, Junior Academy of Science and the Pep Band all three years of high school. In his senior year, he was a homeroom officer, a member of the Hurricane Players and Mu Alpha Theta.
