Doris K. Broughton, age 96, of Shelbina, MO, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.
She was born on July 18, 1917, in Monroe County, MO, the daughter of James Herbert and Ora Belle Curtis Madison. In 1938 she was united in marriage to William Oscar Broughton Jr. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1980.
Doris is survived by three children, Annette Frisbee of Lees Summit, Edward Broughton of Clinton, MD and Teddie Broughton of Gladstone; seven grandchildren, Susan, Sherry, Scott, Kirby, Kyle, Robin and Aaron; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, William Joseph Broughton; four brothers, Donald, Dale, Roy and Herbert Madison; and three sisters, Ruby Bowling, Luella Snyder and Merle Spader.
Doris was a graduate of Shelbina High School and was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar Society and Shelbina Senior Citizens. She enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens and playing cards. She was a wonderful cook and pies were her specialty. She loved spending time in her garden.
Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, May 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelbina with burial following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shelbina Senior Citizens or Shelbina Library.
Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina were in charge of arrangements.
