Verna's family moved from Minnesota by train to Yakima, WA. in 1910 were she would grow up. Her father died when she was 14 years old.
Verna went to nursing school at Paradise Valley Sanitarium and Hospital in National City just south of San Diego, CA. She graduated in 1926.
After graduation she returned to the northwest working one year in a doctor's office, 13 years doing general nursing duties, 14 years as a head nurse and then 7 years at Clark County's isolation hospital in Vancouver, WA. Verna taught practical nursing at Clark County Community College before retiring.
She loved flowers and had a huge flower garden. She would provide flowers for her church and family weddings. Lavender was her favorite color.
She was the go to grandma if you had a Christmas gift you want to make sure would appear under the tree.
