WASHINGTON, Iowa--Rosemary A. Reed, 65, of Washington, formerly of Des Moines, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the University of Iowa from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the First Christian Church in Washington. Burial will take place in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Visitation will be from 12 Noon until 8 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

Rosemary was born on October 19, 1948, in Washington, the daughter of Bernard J. and Lola M. Hartman Reed. She graduated from Washington High School in 1967.

She worked for, and was a member of New Life Center in Des Moines where she cooked for the staff and was a youth group leader involved in youth drama productions. She ran a homeless shelter for many years and assisted refugees from Afghanistan. Rosemary moved back to Washington in June 2011. She volunteered at Washington County Hospice and worked in the Dietary Department at Washington County Hospital.

Rosemary is survived by brother, Roger Reed and wife, Connie, of Washington; a brother, David Reed of Washington; a sister, Bernice Marie Darby and husband, Charles, of Ainsworth; a sister, Melinda Lord and husband, Bill, of Washington; a brother, Nicholas J. Reed and wife, Sue, of Washington; as well as seven nieces and nephews, two great-nieces and one great-nephew.
