There is a Great Debate raging as to whether the information I have on this memorial based on Ancestry.com records is correct - I am on the verge of deleting the memorial altogether.
What I have is: Captain Henry Flower was born abt 1634 in Whitwell, England. His Baptism was on Aug 19th of that year so using that as a birth date for the present. He was married to Joan Flower in abt 1656 in England. They had 5 known children between 1658 and 1670: Lamrock b1658-listed below; Elizabeth b1659; John b1666; Francis b1668; Ann b1670 all in England. Henry being a Ship Captain apparently passed away in Hartford in 1709 and was buried in the 0nly Cemetery at that time in Hartford. There are some estimated 6000 indivduals buried here with only a few hundred Extant grave markers left.
A bit of history on his father Sir William Flower 1609-1662: During the Irish Rebellion in 1641 Sir William was an officer in the army under Michael Jones, Governor of Dublin, by whom and the Parliament of Commissioners, he was seized in 1648 with 5 other officers on suspicion of affection to the Marquis of Ormand (their former General). They were sent as prisoners to England, however He survived to see the restoration of King Charles II to the throne. Charles first parliament, held 1661 affected his return as a Member of Irishtown. He was also made Captain of a company of foot soldiers and later Lieutenant Colonel to King Charles II's Regiment of Guards in Ireland and a sworn member of the Privy Council. Sir William was appointed in 1662 as one of the trustees for satisfying the Arrears of the Commissioned Officers who served the King in Ireland before June 5, 1649. He married Frances, daughter of Walter Weldon Esq. of St. John's Bower, Co Kildare, Ireland and widow of William Savage. He had 3 sons and 1 daughter: Thomas abt 1630; Henry abt 1635- a Lieutenant Colonel of British Army- with no heirs; Alice abt 1640, who married Richard Jones & of course William in 1637. Sir William by his second wife had a daughter, Anne b1645, who married Robert Mercer, a Merchant of Dublin. This gives some insight into William Flower's early life in Ireland & England.
