NOAH EDMUND SMITH
Noah was the son Catherin (Fisher) Boyd and Noah Edmund Smith, Sr. His father was born in England and immigrated to the USA in the mid to late 1840's. He came to Mercer County, Illinois about 1846 where he met and married Noah's mother, who at the time was a widow with four small children, Noah's half siblings; Martin, Hamilton, Elizabeth and Lucinda Boyd.

Noah's father died when he was very young probably between the 1850 and 1860 census because Noah and his mother Catharine Smith are found living alone in Eliza Township in 1860: Catharine Smith, 44, born Indiana; Noah Smith, age 10, born Illinois. No further records of Edmund are found and Noah's mother is remarried to James Turner a few years later.

Noah himself was married twice, first to Josephine Edwards, daughter of Esther Ann (Irwin) and Dr Thomas Lewis Edwards. They were married March 9, 1895 in Muscatine, Iowa. To this union was born four children: Lesta Dell b.1878 – d.1967, James Clarence b.1880 – d.1929, Frank Leroy b.1883 – d.1938 and Leona Beatrice b.1887 – d.1967.

Noah & Josephine divorce sometime before the 1900 Census as he is listed as divorced, in Illinois with their 2 sons and she is living in Washington with their youngest daughter, Leona. Their oldest daughter Lesta, is married to Millard Miller and living on her own.

Next Noah marries Bell E Strode. During their married life they live in both Eliza and Muscatine, Iowa. Noah died in 1933 at the age of 83 and is buried in Eliza Creek Cemetery with his parents and second wife Bell.
