Barbara Byrd Overton, 82, passed away July 13, 2014. She was the widow of her beloved husband of 57 years, Henry Hal Overton, Sr., who passed away August 9, 2009. Barbara was born in Suffolk, a daughter of the late Hurley Holland Byrd, Sr. and Jennie Eva Duke Byrd and was predeceased by a brother, Hurley Holland Byrd, Jr. She was an active member of Franklin Congregational Christian Church for over 50 years where she was a former member of the choir and deacon board. Barbara still enjoyed teaching Sunday school and playing the piano for opening exercises. She was a member of the Franklin YMCA where she was an assistant senior water aerobics instructor. Barbara enjoyed playing with her bridge club every month and enjoyed meeting with her classmates from her Holland High School graduating class for lunch once a month. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Donna Lynn Robinson (Fred) of Chesterfield, Barbara Jean Bloedorn (Bob) of Salt Lake City, UT; two sons, Robert Allen Overton, Sr. (Marty) of Wake Forest, NC and H. Hal "Hank" Overton, Jr. (Wiley) of Luray; one sister, Dorothy B. Edwards (Sonny) of Windsor; six grandchildren, Sarah B. Bennett, David Robinson, Emily R. Klein, A. J. Overton, Daniel Bloedorn and Timothy Overton and nine great-grandchildren, Gavin, Jackson, Wesley, Maya, Anna Holland, Maddie, Ian Hal, Lacey and Dylan. She was blessed with an amazing circle of loving family and friends. The funeral will be held at 11 AM Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Franklin Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. James H. Hyatt, Jr. officiating. The burial will follow at Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, July 16, at Wright Funeral Home and suggest memorials be made to Franklin Congregational Christian Church or Franklin Cooperative Ministries.
