Lula Mae "Lou" Christy was born July 28, 1923 in Albia, Iowa the daughter of Ralph and Lula (Ralston) Downs.

She was raised in Albia and graduated from Albia High School. On August 16, 1947 she was united in marriage to Clyde Christy in Albia. To this union four children were born: Janice, Joyce, Bob and Debbie. The couple made their home in Albia where they owned and operated the Albia Skating Rink.

In their retirement years, they split time between Albia and La Faria, Texas. Lou lived in Knoxville for seven years prior to moving to Marshalltown two years ago.

In her spare time, Lou and Clyde enjoyed camping. Lou was also a great lover of dogs. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished her husband, children and grandchildren.

Lou passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at the Southridge Nursing Center, in Marshalltown, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 24 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde; brother, Bart Downs and her sister, Blanche Stephan.

Those left to honor her memory include her children: Janice Lee of Reinbeck, Joyce (Larry) Ballalatak of Marshalltown, Bob (Rita) Christy of Knoxville and Debbie (Roger) Ipsen of Homestead, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
