Robert E. Karnes Sr.
Operated family farm in Locust Township
Robert E. Karnes Sr., 76, of 377 Poorhouse Road, Catawissa, passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 12, 2010, at his residence.
Born in Bloomsburg on Nov. 1, 1933, he was the son of the late Donald Sr. and Selena Moyle Karnes.
He was a graduate of the former Locust Township High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany with the 540th Company Military Police.
A lifelong resident of the Locust valley, he and his wife operated their family farm.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Numidia, and the Patriotic Order of the Sons of America, the former Numidia chapter, now the Reading chapter.
Preceding him in death was brother Donald Karnes Jr., and a deceased sister, Betty Kobbe.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Cora Evans Karnes; sons: James Karnes and his wife Nancy, Catawissa, and Robert Karnes Jr. and his wife Carol, Auburn; daughter: Debra, wife of Gary Long, Catawissa; sister: Arlene, wife of David Kile, Apache Junction, Ariz.; six grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., from the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa. Officiating will be the Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment with military honors will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Numidia. Viewing will be held in the funeral home, 9 a.m. until service.
Memorials may be made to the Roaring Creek Valley Quick Response Service, 1123 Numidia Drive, Catawissa, PA 17820.
The Allen R. Horne Funeral Home, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa, Richard Staber, Supervisor, is in charge.
