Mrs. Mary DeHaven, 85, wife of Oscar DeHaven, passed away at her home near Dallas Monday morning. Mrs. DeHaven was born near Warren, Ill., February 14, 1858.
She was married at that place to Mr. DeHaven on August 7, 1882. Mr. DeHaven, who was 89 on April 12, survives her.
They lived on his farm near Warren for a number of years and their two children, Glen DeHaven and Mrs. W. M. Elliott, were born there. In 1891 the family moved to Oregon. They chose Corvallis as their home because of its educational advantages. In 1905 Mr. DeHaven became owner of the Dallas Laundry and the family moved here. Later they purchased the farm southeast of Dallas where they had since spent their lives.
Mrs. DeHaven was a lifelong faithful member of the Methodist church, having united with it when about 13 years of age. She was an energetic worker in the Ladies Aid and Missionary societies. She has a special interest in the young people and had taught for many years in the junior department of the Sunday school. The WCTU was also a cause to which she gave her time.
Mr. And Mrs. DeHaven celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 7, 1942.
She is survived by her husband, her two children Glen DeHaven and Mrs. W. M. Elliott, both of Dallas, a sister Mrs. Ruth Tousley of Los Angeles, Calif. She also leaves eight grandchildren, Wendell DeHaven of Dallas, Clark DeHaven of Chicago, Winnifred and Kenneth Elliott of Dallas, Mrs. Norris Kemp of Gold Beach, Mrs. Charles Hopper of Portland and Florence and Gladys Elliott of Corvallis. There are three great grandchildren, Judith Jo and Julia Jan Kemp and John Elliott Hopper.
