U.S. Congressman. He attended Centre College Kentucky, and taught school in the Woodford and Franklin Counties, He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1843, practice law in Owenton, Kentucky, was a member of the Kentucky State Senate, (1857-65) and a member of the Democratic State convention, in 1866. In 1867, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fortieth Congress, serving until 1869. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 68.
