Reverend Rosetta Hayes

Magee - Reverend Rosetta Hayes, born Oct. 20, 1947, died Jan. 30, 2011, a good and faithful servant, was called to receive her wings and long white robe.

Rosetta graduated in 1965 from McLaurin Attendance Center, in Magee. She attended Mississippi Valley State University, and received a Certificate in Theology from the Phillips School of Theology, Atlanta, Ga. on May 13, 2000. Rosetta began working at Magnetek in 1970, and was recognized for giving more than twenty five years of loyal and faithful service. Rosetta accepted her call to minister and preach the gospel, and her first sermon was preached at Goodwater C.M.E. Church, Magee. She served as Pastor of the following churches: Hayne Chapel C.M.E. Church in Pelahatchie, Shady Grove C.M.E. Church in Fannin, and Young Chapel C.M.E. Church in Jackson. Then, July 2009, Reverend Rosetta Hayes returned home to Pastor Goodwater C.M.E. Church in Magee.

On Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, Reverend Rosetta Hayes slipped quietly into the Master's arms to rest in his eternal home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Earnest Hayes; her father, Wilbert Lee Sr., and her brother, Wilbert Lee Jr.

Reverend Hayes leaves her legacy of love, faith, and her beautiful spirit to her two children: Rhonda Hayes Ellis (Kerrold) of Columbus and Deidra Hayes Truitt (Irving) of Durham, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Tyler, Taylor "Queenie" and Todd all of Columbus; Imhotep and Amanitore "Princess" both of Durham, North Carolina; a Step Father, John Earl Lockhart and her mother, Tommie Zean Lockhart; three sisters, Jean Jaynes, Helen Smith (Ronald) and Petreana Sims (Calvert) all of Magee; Two aunts, Etta Dean Williamson of Jackson and Willene Tatum of Chicago, Ill.; One sister-in-law, Yetta Lee of Mendenhall, two God children: Jaquez and Marquez Sanders and their mother, Mertha Sanders all of Jackson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the members of Goodwater C.M.E. Church of Magee.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, Feb.4, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Goodwater Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, 325 Raleigh Drive NE, Magee with Elder Earnest Thompson, Officiating and Bishop Thomas L. Brown, Sr., Presiding Prelate Fourth Episcopal District of the CME Church, Eulogist.

Sudden Passing of Rev. Rosetta Hayes,
Pastor of Goodwater CME Church, Magee, MS

The Gloster-Hattiesburg District is deeply saddened by the loss of one of its dedicated pastors, Rev. Rosetta Hayes. She passed away at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS around 2:30 PM on Sunday, January 30, 2011. Rev. Hayes became ill at some point on Saturday after being present at the Gloster-Hattiesburg District Fifth Saturday Meeting. Please keep Rev. Hayes' daughter, Attorney Rhonda Ellis, her son, grandchildren, the entire family, and the Goodwater CME Church family in your prayers.
