John served as a Technician Fifth Grade, 582nd Signal A.W. Battalion, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Queens County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 22, 1942 at Fort Jay, Governor's Island, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Financial clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

John was "Killed In Action" in Italy during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in Italy and his remains were later shipped back to the United States on the S.S. Carroll Victory. He was repatriated here in August, 1948.
