Daughter of Johan Pehrsson Holmbom (1810-1890) & Anna Sofia Schedin Holmbom (1821-1843). Sophia married Carl Frederick Krantz on November 2, 1870 in Vallby Habo, Tibble Parish, Uppsala, Sweden.
They became the parents of six children ~ two daughters and four sons. Carl Albin Carlson Krantz (1871-1930); Anne Sofia Krantz Applequist (1873-1944); Johan Bernhard Krantz (1875-1956); Bernhardina Christina Krantz Forsberg(1878-1862); Henrick Gothard Krantz who was called Henry (1880-1947) & Karl Victor Emanuel Krantz (1883-1943).
Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came to their home in the fall of 1887. After thoughtful study Carl, Sophia and Albin their oldest son, then age 17 years were baptized members in 1888. Eventually all of their children joined. After a while they had the desire to go to United States. The children left one by one to go to Stockholm where it was easier to earn the money necessary to make the journey. The family emigrated to the United States as follows: Albin in the fall of 1893; Anna in the fall of 1895; Bernhardina the summer of 1898; Bernhard and Henry in August of 1900 ~ and the parents Carl, Sophia, and their youngest son Victor, in November, 1900. Carl and Sophia came on the Dominion Line departing from Liverpool, England and landing in Boston, Massachusetts. Then they took a long train ride across the continent to Salt Lake City, Utah, joyfully reuniting with their family.
Note: Sophia's headstone and death record, posted on this memorial, has her birth date incorrectly recorded. Sophia was born on May 13, 1840 as indicated by a Swedish household book, similar to a US Census record taken before the family immigrated and several family records.
